History of Double Names in the South
The tradition of giving a child two first names, or a double name, started in the south. It was originally done as a way to honor family members, and the names stick, its never acceptable to shorten a double south name to the single name!
While it is more common for girls to have double names, there are plenty of boys with southern double names as well. In fact, it is becoming more and more popular for parents to give their children unique names.
